Town Hall - Level 3 - Farming

Town Hall 3 starts to get interesting.  You can now rebuild the Clan Castle and start seeking out Clans!  Notable additions to this Town Hall: the Mortar and the Laboratory.  The Mortar adds an absolutely necessary splash damage to your defense and the Laboratory lets you start upgrading your troops.  Upgrading your troops quickly is essential to having productive raids.

Below are several charts on the available buildings at Town Hall 3.  They show some very valuable information.  Please always double check the wiki to make sure these values are up-to-date.  The graphic I use to represent each building in my layout is also shown on the far right.

Layout / Base Perimeter
Generally I try to keep a base symmetrical down the diagonal.  It looks nicer and coverage is spread around more equally.  Unfortunately at such a low tier Town Hall it's hard to do so sometimes.  This is one of those bases where coverage is better without perfect symmetry.  It actually is symmetrical if you look at it from this view but in game it'll look weird as the the middle line is down the diagonal.

Regardless, this base is what I would prefer over the other two Town Hall 3 layouts on this site.  Mainly because trophies still shouldn't be such a big deal to you right now.  Your main goal should be protecting your resources and upgrading your stuff.  Because of this, I feel it more necessary to box in each of your defenses individually rather than try to put the Town Hall inside the walls.

If you notice I've placed a single outlying wall to try and force attacking troops to the better defended corners rather than from the bottom.  This should protect the Town Hall better.  However, if they do decided to attack from the bottom a troop has a long way to travel through Clan Castle troops and Mortar damage before reaching your Town Hall.

It's around this time that I got my third Builder.  If you don't have a third you can simply remove the Builder's Hut from the top corner of this layout.

Trap Placement
There really is no best Bomb placement on this base.  I would say put them wherever you want.  I've placed them next to the corners where the Cannons are for added damage to Barbarians or Giants trying to break through your walls.

Mortar Coverage
The Mortar is as centralized as you can get, really.  The Mortar is well protected within it's own set of walls and behind several layers of other buildings.  It will take a while before an attacking troop will get to it which leaves plenty of time for it to demolish attackers.  I've also surrounded and covered it with all three of the other defenses, as seen below.

Cannon Coverage
The Cannons are placed so that they double up coverage on each other, the Mortar, and the Archer Tower.  The Town Hall is somewhat covered as well. Each Cannon is protecting a Gold Storage and an Elixer Storage.

Archer Tower Coverage
Since there is a lot of open space up top, the Archer Tower will reinforce the Cannons there.  I've left the corners open above the Barracks because placing a building there pushes Archers out of Range.  You really want them within Range of the Archer Tower.

Clan Castle Reinforcements
Ah, the Clan Castle!  This is probably one of the most underestimated of your defenses.  It is imperative that you join a Clan (give Shucked a shout!) so that you can always have reinforcements if you're attacked.  You can see that the Clan Castle covers a lot of area in your base.  I tend to stick it near the middle of the base or close to my Town Hall for extra protection.  The basic idea is that the Clan Castle troops become an annoyance.  While the attacker is trying to get rid of them your defenses, your donated troops are killing the attacker's troops off faster.  The attacker will also have to use more of their army to get rid of the Clan Caste troops.  This means less troops to attack the rest of your base.

The Clan Castle is placed nearest to the center so that it covers all the important areas: defenses, Town Hall, and Storages.  It is always a good idea to place it near the Town Hall.
